Is the Antichrist Handsome and Charming? Common Myths

The mysterious frightening language of the Revelation leaves us mystified and terrified and curious, especially when it comes to the person of the Antichrist.

Who is he, what will he look like? Myths have surfaced and anyone who embraces these myths is not paying attention to what the Scriptures teach about the Antichrist. Some teachers have depicted the Antichrist as a handsome man with perfect features smiling from ear to ear, deceiving the world by his charismatic charm and good looks.  This takes us to our first myth and you will notice that I speak in the present tense because the Antichrist is already walking, talking and living on earth, he has just not stepped into his position yet.

Before I expose the myth, I want to point out that many Christians believe that we should not focus so much attention on the Antichrist or the end times because the Bible teaches about Jesus and we must focus on Jesus. The Bible says in 2 Timothy 3:16 16 All Scripture is given by inspiration of God, and is profitable for doctrine, for reproof, for correction, for instruction in righteousness,

God spoke Scripture for inspiration and for teaching. The prophets of Ancient Israel, warned the Israelites of various evil kings and troops invading and taking captive the children of Israel. The prophecy acted as a warning.  They were to get their lives in order with God.  If you do not know Jesus as your personal savoir now is the time to come to know him and if you are a believer, now is the time to make sure you are in a close walk with Christ and doing his will for your life. The forecasts of the coming Antichrist are more complex because the teachings deal with the battle of Armageddon, which leads to the end of the age, the destruction of the earth, and the white throne judgment. In addition during the Tribulation believers will find themselves in a new dispensation in which they will be directly effected.   End time teachings are also for Tribulation Saints to understand what they are dealing with. Jesus also commands his followers to Watch for the signs of his coming. Having said all of that I am now going to give you the characteristics of the Antichrist taught in the Bible so that you will know how to identify him. So we go back now to our first myth.

Myth no. 1 The Antichrist is exceptionally handsome.

The myth arose from the thought that if the Antichrist is going to rule the world people will need to be attracted to him and it is a fact that people are more attracted to attractive persons. The Bible clearly states when someone is beautiful. Genesis 12:11 describes Sara Abraham’s wife as a woman of beautiful countenance. Genesis 29:17, tells us Rachel was beautiful of form and appearance. When it came to a handsome man, 11 Samuel 14:25 describes David’s son Absalom, which btw, is how some imagine the Antichrist to look like, “Now in all Israel there was no one who was praised as much as Absalom for his good looks. From the sole of his foot to the crown of his head there was no blemish in him.   Verse 27 tells us about his daughter: To Absalom were born three sons and one daughter whose name was Tamar. She was a woman of beautiful appearance. The Bible does not offer the same language when describing the Antichrist’s features. What the Bible tells us about the appearance of the Antichrist is this: Daniel 8: 23 states, “And in the latter time of their kingdom, When the transgressors have reached their fullness, A king shall arise, Having fierce features…

The word means strong, mighty, fierce. The word in Daniel 8:23 specifically means hard of face shameless, not showing respect for another person, rude.  Synonyms are insolent meaning the person is marked by contemptuous or cocky boldness or disregard of others.   Insolent, highly insulting, contemptuous in speech or conduct, overbearing.  We also get from these words exhibiting boldness.

Daniel 7:20 tells us that the Antichrist’s appearance is greater than his fellows and the word used in the Hebrew means chief, captain, leader, it also means great, to speak great things, to speak proudly, impiously, which also relates to his establishing himself as a deity.  This brings us to  our second myth that the Antichrist’s is going to be charismatic, so charismatic the world will want to flock to him. No where in Scripture does it say the Antichrist is charismatic and a charmer, if anything he will stand out as a leader and one who is cocky and bold.  The Bible focuses more on his words which are blasphemous than his looks. The Antichrist does not get into his position by his charm. The Scripture tells us that he obtains the kingdom through intrigue- a secret or underhand scheme; a plot.

As I stated in my book The Seat of the Antichrist: Bible Prophecy and The European Union, the Scripture tells us that the Antichrist is wiser than Daniel, he is smart and Daniel 8:23 tells us he will understand sinister schemes, he knows what he is doing and knows how to get into position.  He will know the solutions to the various problems within the EU but he is really going to move the EU into its position of strength for his own purposes.

In terms of the European Union, which he will lead, what he is doing at this moment is making like he is for the European Union’s goals and purpose and like he is for all Europeans. But, he already sees his potential for total and absolute power within the EU.   He really does not care about Europe he cares about power.  He will try to get into the EU’s seat of power, which is the Seat of the Antichrist.

The Antichrist becomes strong with a small people, which means that it is a small country or electorate that puts him into power, but he raises his position to its greatness. I believe he is from a small country and then he gets into the European Union and is elected by the groups within the EU council and Parliament to his position. Daniel also tells us that here is no pomp or circumstance when he gets into position.   He is not given the honor of a king. This describes each European Union presidency.

In the Revelation, the Antichrist comes on a white horse because he is a deceiver and many will believe his words that he stands on the teachings of his ideology, that he is for Europe, human rights, and the good of the people. He is anything but.  Initially when he sits in the EU’s highest seat he will continue to deceive to accomplish his aims and he will.  He does not gain his position because he is a great charmer or so charismatic but through intrigue and becoming strong with a small people.  Satan is there to help him get into his position.  Revelation 13:2 tells us that “the dragon gave him his power, his throne and great authority.   In addition the Antichrist is appointed by God for God’s purpose.  He allows the Antichrist to make war with the saints. Revelation 13:7 tells us: It was granted to him to make war with the saints and to overcome them.  And authority was given him over every tribe, tongue and nation.

I want to point out that while the Antichrist is not charismatic the false prophet is. The bible tells us about the false prophet in  Revelation 13: 12 And he exercises all the authority of the first beast in his presence, and causes the earth and those who dwell in it to worship the first beast, whose deadly wound was healed.  In regards to the Antichrist’s wound Revelation 13 tells us there is an eighth head on our seven headed beast who dies and comes back to live again, we also learn in Zachariah that the wound is elaborated on for we are told his right eye is blinded and his left arm dried up.   The mere fact that someone would try to kill him tells us that someone does not like him, this wound also identifies him. He might end up wearing special glasses or an eye path. His arm might be in some sort of a sling.  Or he will not move it because of its paralysis.  The Antichrist’s injury and recovery from near death is in part how he will get the world’s attention.   Again we have another parallel to Jesus.

Thus, we have answered the question is the Antichrist handsome and charming?

The answer is clear.   While this broadcast has helped answer some of the questions on the identity of the Antichrist, even more so it will help any Tribulation Saints who tune in to identify him.  In the mean time are you ready for when the King returns?  This has been Erika Grey with Today’s topic, join me next week when I will be speaking on Why the US had better pay attention to the EU.
