WHY THE WHORE OF BABYLON WEARS PURPLE AND RED
The Whore of Babylon of Revelation 17 is clothed in scarlet and purple and gold, and many have wondered what these colors represent.
We know that the Whore of Babylon draws men and women away from true salvation and we see this salvation represented in the colors of the fabric in the Jewish temple.
Note the following list:
The colors of the hems of the robes, of the curtains covering the sacred implements we see the color pattern of gold, blue, purple and scarlet.
The Girdles- Exodus 39:24, Exodus 39:29
The Ephod- Exodus 39:5, 8
The Breastplate -Exodus 28:15, 39: 1
The cloths for service, the hanging for the gate of the court of the Temple- Exodus 38:18, 27:16
Hanging for Tabernacle Door- Exodus 36:37
Curtains of Tabernacle- Exodus 36:8
The Vail of the Temple- Exodus 26:31 Tabernacle with 10 curtains, Exodus 26:1
In the Whore’s attire, while it matches up with the colors in the Temple it is missing one significant color and that is blue. Blue represents God’s holiness.
In the Old Testament we see the following in blue:
Robes of the priests were blue- Ex.28:31
Table of showbread, dishes, spoons, bowls, and bread shall be spread out on blue cloth-Numbers 4:7
Blue cloth covering the candlesticks, lamps, tongs, snuff dishes and all of the oil vessels- Numbers 4:9
Golden alter covered with a cloth of blue and with badgers skins and put into the staves-Numbers 4:11
All the instruments of ministry in the sanctuary placed in a cloth of blue- Numbers 4:12
Numbers in the NKJ 15:38 states:
Speak unto the children of Israel and bid them that they make them fringes in the borders of their garments throughout their generations, and that they put upon the fringe of the borders a ribbon of blue.
Numbers 15:37-41 in In the NKJV reads:
37 Again the Lord spoke to Moses, saying, 38 “Speak to the children of Israel: Tell them to make tassels on the corners of their garments throughout their generations, and to put a blue thread in the tassels of the corners. 39 And you shall have the tassel, that you may look upon it and remember all the commandments of the Lord and do them, and that you may not follow the harlotry to which your own heart and your own eyes are inclined, 40 and that you may remember and do all My commandments, and be holy for your God. 41 I am the Lord your God, who brought you out of the land of Egypt, to be your God: I am the Lord your God.”
We also see it very clearly in Ezekiel 38:36-38 on the instructions to Aaron.
36 “You shall also make a plate of pure gold and engrave on it, like the engraving of a signet:
HOLINESS TO THE LORD.
37 And you shall put it on a blue cord, that it may be on the turban; it shall be on the front of the turban. 38 So it shall be on Aaron’s forehead, that Aaron may bear the iniquity of the holy things which the children of Israel hallow in all their holy gifts; and it shall always be on his forehead, that they may be accepted before the Lord.
Holiness to the Lord was embroidered in blue. Blue is the color of God’s holiness. This is why blue is missing on the Harlot because she is unholy and a counterfeit and leads men and women to a false god. It is interesting that she has the same colors representing faith but misses the key color of blue representing the Lord God Himself.
